Great T-shirt expectations

I'm on a seemingly eternal quest for the perfect T-shirt. I don't think my list of requirements is too long -- do you?

I need a T meet the following criteria:

  • Cotton, as close to 100 percent as possible
  • Full sleeve
  • Neckline that holds its shape
  • Minimal shrinking lengthwise (this is a biggie -- I'm not tall. At all. If I have issues with length, how do people who aren't 5' 3'' deal?). I need to be able to wash and toss in the dryer.

My passionate love for Gap Favorite Ts is faltering. Where do you buy Ts? Why do you love them?

  1. No joke, I find the best T-shirts at Target, especially any with emblems of some sort on them (a lot of which are actually nice enough to wear to work with some cool pants). I've had several of those a couple of years and they haven't shrank at all. Even their plain colored T's hold up well in the wash. I can't stand shirts that shrink from the bottom up!

  2. I agree with the rec for Target T's, I really like their long-sleeve v-necks. My absolute favorites are Club Monaco, though. No shrinking and they are so soft and light-weight.

  3. Excellent! Keep 'em coming!

What line at Target? Mossimo? Cherokee? Merona?

  4. I'm partial to the tees at LL Bean. Great solid colors, minimal shrinkage, and a good variety of neckline and sleeve choices.

  5. Best t-shirts I've ever owned are made by a company called comfort colors. I've got one from Schoolkids Records in Chapel Hill, and one from the Provision Company in Southport. They're pretty heavy for a t-shirt, and when you buy them they're already sort of broken in.

  7. I have worn J Crew t's for years, soft, durable and great fitting. American Apparel also makes a great t-shirt.

  9. i have a couple that i LOVE LOVE - but first i'll say that target CAN be good, but its not always. TRY IT ON.

my two favorites: jcrew tissue-weight tee's. never lose shape, ALWAYS soft, and long enough. next - URBAN OUTFITTERS has awesome plain t's, and they're always long enough (b/c they advocate layering, too!). lastly - a small company called bella. they have amazing quality, and i love pretty much all of their options. i'm a smaller-framed person, and i swear a S or a M (M is my best bet). bella.com - seriously you won't regret a single purchase, its been such a find for me and my roomie. "Cotton Spandex Short Sleeve Crew Neck T" or the "Baby Rib Short Sleeve Crew Neck T-shirt" - i'd swear on it! g'luck shoppers!

  11. Walmart Hanes Her Way T-shirts are wonderful and the price can't be beat. They are cut to flatter a woman's figure - no matter what size you are and they are now using a new "softer" fabric that feels great. I've had 3 for about a year and washed them countless times. They hold up well.
