Crocs are mutating

I was so hoping we'd see the end of Crocs sometime soon.

Instead, the shoes that many mistake as acceptable for wearing in public keep mutating. Among the latest transgressions? The Croc Sassari and Cyprus (above) -- a wedge sandal and 3-inch strappy heel, respectively.

I'll admit to owning a pair of knockoffs I bought out of desperation at the beach last summer. I will also admit that I still wear them, but never out of the house.

Yes, they're moderately comfy, but buoyancy and being able to hose them off are not selling points I often consider when buying shoes at any price.

What is the attraction?

  1. You're missing the point on Crocs altogether...they're not for you, a "shoe person." Not that there's anything wrong with being a shoe person... But Crocs are for those of us who like to have comfort, color, and fun at the same time--it's a morphing of the hippy/laid-back lifestyle. I'm from California, where Crocs can be lived in pretty much all year around, and are--by men, women, and kids.

They're so much more fun than Birkenstocks, and way better looking...without sacrificing comfort.

And what's wrong with that? (Personally, I couldn't see the reason for strapping yourself into high-heels for your work day, but I respect the right to do so.

    Have a great day!

  2. They are ugly, but soooo comfy! I lived in mine for a few weeks when we moved last summer - tennis shoes were too hot, flip flops too flimsy, crocs just right.

  3. Your problem is the knockoffs. They are never as good as the real thing. I think they are acceptable anywhere jeans are acceptable.

  4. I'm a big-time shoe person and wear crocs. BUT, only for a quick run to the grocery store, to get my paper or work in the yard.

I broke a bone in the top of my foot a couple of years ago and they were they only shoes I could wear.

I agree they are not the prettiest things in the world but when I wear my Carolina Panthers crocs with all the Jibbitz I get a lot of compliments.

  5. I agree, they may not be the prettiest shoes, but they are more comfortable than any other pair in my closet. And there are a lot of shoes in my closet.

People once said the same types of things about blue jeans, they were good for working, but not for wearing in public, and look where that went

  6. No, Crocs are not for everyone, me included. I am a nurse and I hate to see them worn in the hospital. I don't think they even come close to looking professional, and safety is another issue. As far as wearing them in public, well you may as well wear your slippers.

  7. I am not so Shallow that I worry about fitting in with the crowd. I wear my Crocs when I want and where I want.

  8. I agree with you. Those Crocs are the worst I've ever seen. I'm from Connecticut and I use to work for "the phone company" there. We were able to come to work in anything, scarfs on your head, sweats, just sloppy from head to toe if you liked. I had a friend come visit me from CT recently, who also still works for "the phone company." She wanted to go to the store with me with those things on her feet and a scarf wrapped around her head. I told her I would not leave the house until she put on some shoes and combed her hair down. I think Crocs are for people who just don't care what they look like and for those who have given up.

  9. I love my crocs and I have many different styles. They are the MOST COMFORTABLE shoes I have ever worn. I broke my leg almost 4 yrs ago and had problems wearing shoes that were comfortable around my ankle and now no more problems since Crocs came along. The cheap knock offs do not compare to the REAL CROCS.

  10. When I first saw Crocs, I thought they were the ugliest things I had ever seen. A friend told me how comfortable they were-so I got a pair-and much to my amazement, they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever put on my feet. They are light weight; my feet don't ever get hot, and the callous on the bottom of my foot that I have dealt with for years is no where to be found. That is why I don't wear anything else-they are awesome!!!

  11. I can't seem to buy myself a pair but I have bought knock offs for both of my girls - the oldest loves them! I think it is really funny that they are making high heeled ones :)

  12. I hate to admit I finally succumbed to a pair of hot pink Crocs last year... But I was entering my third trimester of pregnancy... in July... during the driest hottest weather Charlotte has ever seen! As such, I felt justified in my actions. Although not pretty, they ARE very comfortable and cool. Now I will use them at the beach... and I'll get a pair for my little girl to wear instead!

  13. Ugly as they may be, if you are or ever have been plagued with heel spurs, you must get these shoes!!! I got heel spurs about a year ago and could not find any relief. Then I read that Crocs were great for that so I broke down and bought a pair of the ugly little things and wore them everytime I was going to have to be standing or walking. Guess what... heel spurs are no longer a problem. So as a fashion statement they are ugly. But as a foot pain reliever... They are absolutely beautiful!!!!!!

  14. the comment that people who wear crocs have given up is silly. i could just as easily fault you for being so superficial that you actually believe a person's worth is tied up in his/her appearance. That's one of the biggest problem with people/humanity today - that too many people identify with the external.

I love my crocs and I only wear shoes that are comfortable - why come home with sore feet? Besides - I have arthritis in my feet (since I was 31) so what matters most to me is COMFORT. Can't judge a book...
