Skinny what?

I just finished reading "Skinny Bitch" by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, and I'm bummed that the best part of the book ****spoiler alert ***** was on the very last page. The potty-mouthed insults slung (at just about everyone, including readers) along the way detracted from the message.

I'll be the first to admit I can hang with the saltiest of sailors when it comes to cussing, but the faux "Girlfriend, you go girl" vibe the authors tried to capture through profanity was highly annoying.

So what's the nugget buried on page 224?

"Comparison is the thief of joy. No matter what we do, most of us will never look like supermodels or celebrities. And accepting that will make our lives a whole lot better. ... Take excellent care of the body you were blessed with, and love, love, love it!"

Did you read the best-selling book? What's your review?

  1. The title is catchy, but I found the advice to be a bit unrealistic. How many people could really maintain that lifestyle??

  2. I am still in shock this book is as popular as it is. I am happy I went to the library and checked it out instead of actually spending my money on it.

    A) A lot of it is unrealistic

    B) The "authors" are a little too pretentious for my liking

    C) I finished it in an hour and a half. Really, give me something more substantial.

  3. I thought they were hilarious, and it is good advice for anyone. While following it to the letter is in fact unrealistic, I seem to recall that they admitted to straying from their own advice and seemed to consider it a way of eating to aspire towards rather than an all or nothing proposition.
Honestly, if a book has a curse word in the title, it should probably serve as a warning of what's to come.

  4. Actually the advice in this book is totally realistic. What's not realistic is the distorted "Standard American Diet" (SAD). It just seems realistic because most of us have been brainwashed by advertisements and grocery store aisles into believing it's right for us. As a vegan already, I don't need to read the book. But if you want to know how good milk is for you, google the following without quotes: "milk ovarian cancer" and "milk cataracts" and for men, "milk prostate cancer" and "milk parkinson's". The book is short because it's just so simple!!! EAT PLANTS!! Eat whole foods!! Avoid cow's milk products like the plague that they are!! You're probably wondering why mainstream media hardly ever talks about it and the Charlotte Observer hardly ever mentions any of this and has food pages full of meats and dairy. Hello, look at their advertisers!! Wouldn't want to tick anybody off and lose advertising money would we?? What's the health of our readers next to profits?? Nothing!!

If the length of "Skinny Bitch" doesn't impress you, try "The China Study". It's a lot longer and tells you not only how and why the Standard American Diet is so bad, it also gives inside information on the motivation of corporations in promoting it. A real eye-opener.
